Product Leader · Engineer · Entrepreneur
Hi there — I'm Joss, an electrical engineer by training, software developer by profession, and product builder by practice. I grew up in Australia, then moved to Texas as a kid. After twenty years in Austin, Texas — my partner Cassie, our dog Leroy, our cat Biscuit, and I made the move to Portland, Oregon, where I traded breakfast tacos for excellent coffee and kept building.
I received a degree in Electrical Engineering from UT Austin and spent the first half of my career at the junction of hardware and software — firmware, embedded systems, device platforms. The second half has been increasingly about data and AI — what you can do once the devices are all connected.
I have helped found and grow three startups — Sentient, Yonomi, and Ladle. As a co-founder, CTO, and Head of Product at Yonomi, I led the development of a connected home platform that powered smart home experiences for millions of users. Yonomi was acquired by multinational access control company Allegion in 2021. From 2022-2024, I was co-founder and CTO at Ladle, an AI-first cooking and connected kitchen platform, building our early prototypes and MVP from scratch.
I am most comfortable when the constraints are real, the systems are complex, and the team is small enough that everyone's work matters. Learn more about my product perspectives
I am currently a consultant and advisor, helping early-stage startups and teams build better products and services, usually centered on connected products and IoT platforms. I am open to new opportunities — both contract and full-time — so if you think we might be a good fit, please reach out, I'd love to chat!
